Thoughts on John 7:53-8:11??
by BarelyThere ini always accepted that the nwt said that these verses in john were not in the most reliable manuscripts.
i thought it was strange that while the "old" nwt at least included the verses, the "revised" nwt completely omits them.
now i'm trying to do research on my own, but my head is still spinning from all of the information i've taken in the past week.

In truth, these verses shouldn't affect anyone's faith, one way or the other.
Witnesses would do better to examine the internal & external evidence regarding the "accepted" wording of Matthew 28:19. (see http://jesus-messiah.com/apologetics/catholic/matthew2819.html)
Also, they may wish to check out John 3:16 etc. and discover that "exercising faith" is a NWT corruption of the Greek word pisteo, which means "believe", "have confidence in", or "be persuaded." (Blueletterbible.org)

My First CLAM Meeting
by The Searcher ini carried out my monthly "cover" visit to the k.h.
tonight.
as previously discussed on this forum, the clam meeting is just a rehashed, recycled, reshuffled, & rebranded ministry school and service meeting.

BigDummy - totally in tune with all of your comments.
As for this one - An elder was giving a part a few weeks ago that required audience participation and at one point he asked a question and there was dead silence for about 30 seconds - an arrogant elder in my previous congregation got an even longer silence when he asked a question in his item. His response to the silent audience was, "Have any of you actually prepared this item??"
What a gentle & loving shepherd. He's now a CoBE!

The apathy in the congregation (barely 50% in attendance) was palpable! I discreetly looked at different ones during the proceedings, and their stony facial expressions spoke volumes. This religion is not the one they signed up for, and several looked as if they'd lost the will to live. The young married couple in front of me kept themselves occupied by whispering sweet nothings to each other throughout the meeting. The same 7 or 8 people kept answering the questions from the platform. This meeting compounds the Corporation's major blunder of cancelling the home Book Study Group.
I know - this post is in the Jokes & Humour section, but this meeting is one bad joke!!!
I'll sleep well tonight.

Most Poorly Written JW Book
by JW_Rogue inso i was thinking the other day that the wt corp has produced thousands of books over the years.
although the writers have changed the style is almost always the same.
however, some books are just worse than others.

The "Imitate their Faith" book - by a country mile!
"My Book of Bible Stories" is an articulate and intellectual Bible-teaching aid, compared to the "Imitate" book - as clearly proven by the mindless answers offered for the hypothetical questions, such as -
Noah and his wife faced what challenges in raising their children?
What aspect of Noah’s work may have been more challenging than ark-building.
How might Noah and his family have been occupied during the final week before the Deluge?
From whom might Abram have learned about Jehovah, and why may we conclude that this is a possibility?
(a) What preparations and decisions needed to be made prior to leaving Ur? (b) How might we picture the morning of departure?
What was the journey from Ur to Haran like, and why might Abram have decided to settle in Haran for a time?
Why might Naomi have been concerned when her sons married Moabite women?
What may have drawn Ruth to Jehovah?
What was a threshing floor, and how was it used?
Describe the scene at the threshing floor as Boaz finished working for the evening.
What may have been the meaning behind the gift that Boaz bestowed on Ruth?

Swearing on the bible
by Lost and adrift inon the subject of truth.
..... i was always under the impression that one of the reasons jws couldn't do jury duty or go to court etc was that we were not allowed to swear on the bible.
..as in i swear to tell the truth the whole truth etc etc .

I personally knew a sister who was jailed for refusing to serve on a jury - because she could not swear on the Bible as demanded. There was no alternative offered back then.
Rather than pay a fine, she went to jail. An unknown benefactor paid her fine and she was released after 2-3 days. J.W's assumed it was the richest J.W. family in Scotland at the time who paid the fine. They quietly helped many impoverished J.W.'s when they were in business.

what began as a day of joy finding out that one of my lifelong friends had her baby, turned into a nightmare when her brother called me to let me know she had passed away after birth.
i was in shock and didn't ask how.

Welcome Grey Goose. You are in a great situation to fade - no wife or kids.
Your apparently biggest step is going to be stepping down as a Ministerial Servant - but it's not difficult at all! Eventually, the lies you have to tell in your "teaching assignments" will chew up your conscience so badly, that telling the CoBE you're quitting as an M.S. will be easy.
Been there, done it - I just told the two elders that my reasons were private & personal, and refused to say more! Seriously bugged them. :)
You now have to follow your own route. Best wishes.

It's apparently the Corporation's way of weaning the publishers away from taking pride in the amount of printed literature they place each month, to getting them to feel that they're achieving the same objective (preaching the good news????) by getting strangers to look at clips of Corporate videos & animations on an iPad.
All part of the master plan to drastically cut or eliminate the costs of printing, in exchange for "digital teachings."
